The first of the five one day internationals between Australia and West Indies got underway yesterday at St. Vincent. West Indies won the toss and elected to field. This seemed to be not so great a decision considering their inexperienced batting line up. Australia opened with their IPL stars Watson and Shaun Marsh. Both took Australia to a flyer. They were 75 for no loss at the end of 12 overs. Then a little slump started. They went from 75 for no loss to 117 for 3. Marsh never looked like he was making his debut and played a brilliant knock to score 81. He fell short of the 3 figure mark and Australia were under more trouble at 140 for 4. Haddin and Hussey then joined hands to rebuild the innings. Haddin made a quick fire 50 to guide Australia to a respectable 273.
West Indies chasing a target of 274 never got off the blocks. Both Lee and Bracken bowled exceedingly well. Lee picked up Marshall and Sarwan while Bracken picked up Gayle. West Indies never recovered and were bowled out for 189 giving the Australians an 84 run victory. Bracken picked up 4 scalps which Lee picked up 2. Marsh was named the man of the match.
