It was the finals of the Asia Cup and India and Sri Lanka both were in good nick to clinch the title. Sri Lanka batted first and they couldn't handle the hot Indian bowling as well as fielding. They were tottering at 66 for 4 when Jayasuriya got going. He never looked like he was 39 years of age. He blasted the Indian bowling to all parts of the ground. He was given good company by Dilshan. Jayasuriya made 125 runs while Dilshan made 59. Sri Lanka managed to score 273 which did not seem to be much ominous. India went about their chase professionally but once Mendis came into the attack it was curtains for the Indians. Mendis bowled brilliantly and picked up 6 wickets. India were bowled out for a mere 173 giving a 100 run victory to the Lankans. Mendis was named the man of the match as well as the man of the series.
